Zero Tolerance - Graffiti Busting

There are more reports to follow from the packed public meeting last night in Yate with the police - who spent over 2 hours listening to residents and councillors from the Focus Team  - and working with us to tackle some of our current local problems.
Amongst other issues, Alan Monaghan reported back on the new FREE graffiti service in Yate. Thanks to Alan and the Focus Team's initiative, the Town Council now provide a FREE graffiiti removal service to households living in Yate. This is a FREE service the town council is now providing for local residents. Mike explained ' we realised that residents just don't have the kit and chemicals to do it themselves, so Alan Monaghan got the Town Council to set up this free service'.

  Led by the Focus Team, Yate Town Council  has launched a new, FREE graffiti removal service to residents. Call 01454 856506
  
  
  Lead Councillor on graffiti, Alan Monaghan has made it clear that graffiti is not something the Town Council or residents are willing to accept in Yate.  
  
  
  The Council is proud to launch our own Zero Tolerance Scheme offering FREE graffiti removal for householders - any resident in Yate can use this service. 
  
  
  The Town Council has purchased specialised steam cleaning equipment and has introduced a ‘One Stop’ graffiti reporting service.
  
  
  To try to prevent the problem, the council is working with South Glos’ Anti-Social Behaviour and Community Safety Team and The Local Beat Team, who have created an active Problem-Solving Plan.
  
  
  Detached youth workers are working with young people to highlight the problems graffiti causes.  The council are also working with Virgin Media and BT Openreach to identify and clean the green and grey communication cabinets that have been attacked by spray can vandals.
  
  
  How can you help?
  
  
  You can help by reporting graffiti attacks, but we’ve identified that some of the graffiti tags round here are from groups based in Bristol.   Do you know who your younger family members are hanging out with?  Involvement with graffiti often leads to more serious crime.

Reporting graffiti

 South Glos Council has confirmed its policy on removing graffiti:

• All graffiti should be reported to the Council
• Graffiti on public property will be removed in 3 working days
• Offensive/hate crime graffiti is removed within 1 day unless police investigations are ongoing
• Graffiti can be reported online here
• Graffiti on private property is the responsibility of the property owner
• The Council will report graffiti on utility boxes (phone, electricity etc) to the utility provider

Serious graffiti attack at Kingsgate Park - can you help police?

Last night (Thursday/ Friday) a considerable amount of graffiti - some of it obscene - was painted onto the play equipment in Kingsgate Park.

A lot of cream emulsion was painted (using brushes/ rollers) onto some of the wooden items, and black paint was used to write and draw on the end walls of the football/ basketball court. Blue gloss was poured onto the basketball  back-boards, and dripped onto the tarmac floor.

It would appear the culprits were well organised and no tins were found in the park.

A big thank you is due to Yate Town Council's Estates Team who have spent today working hard cleaning off the paint. Most has been removed with just a small amount of inaccessible material remaining.
