The next Yate, Chipping Sodbury and Dodington Community Engagement Forum is being held at 7pm on Thursday 15 February at St Nicholas Church, Chargrove, Abbotswood, Yate BS37 4LG.

The meeting will include a drop in event "Your Community Cares" at 6.30 pm before the main meeting at where you can speak to representatives from the Police, Neighbourhood Watch, Next Link (domestic abuse), DH&I (drug and alcohol service) and the Anti-Social Behaviour Team.

Yate, Chipping Sodbury and Dodington Community Engagement Forum 16 November

The Community Engagement Forum will be meeting 7 pm – 9 pm on 16 November at Poole Court, Poole Court Drive, Yate BS37 5PP.

This is your chance to talk directly to local Police and Fire and Rescue representatives, and Town/Parish and South Glos Councillors about issues of local concern.

There will also be a presentation about the work done by Abbotswood Action Group and the progress made in the Abbotswood area.

Men In Sheds - event 5 October

Are you interested in making things, working with wood, working in a team doing things for others?

Yate Town Council are organizing a free drop in event for anyone interested in hearing more about the startup of an over 50’s ‘Men in Sheds’ group in Yate.

The event is taking place on Thursday 5th October 2017 from 12.30pm-2.30pm at the Armadillo Youth Café and Venue (the purple building next to Yate Leisure Centre).

The Town Council has invited local established Men in Sheds groups to come and share their experiences with those attending and have asked if they could bring along some examples of items that they have created/mended within their sessions or information on other activities.

There will be displays with information relating to existing Men’s Sheds and information about how to set up and run the sheds. Yate Heritage Centre are also bringing along examples of historic local tools. 

Refreshments including free coffee, tea, bacon butties (veggie alternative) and biscuits will be on offer during the event.

This is a very informal meeting for anyone who would like to hear more about the project and would like to help shape the future of the group.

Community Engagement Forum date moved

The Community Engagement Forum for Yate, Chipping Sodbury and Dodington (which replaces Safer Stronger and the Area Forum) has unavoidably had to be postponed to 21 November, 7 pm in the Main Hall at Chipping Sodbury Baptist Church, High Street, Chipping Sodbury.

• Mark King, the Head of Street Care and Transport for South Glos Council will be attending
• The meeting will also include an update on the Libraries consultation
• Plus how a Community Plan can benefit YOUR Community

If you have any issues or concerns you would like to raise please email your local chair via community.engagement@southglos.gov.uk

Below are just some of the concerns that have been raised by residents at CEF meetings which members of the group have been able to take forward on their behalf:

• Concerns from residents about Health Care provision in the area; Clinical Commission Group, North Bristol Trust and Sirona Health all attended the next meeting to answer residents questions.
• Speeding and Parking concerns in the area, work undertaken by Avon and Somerset Police, Community Speedwatch, Police Camera Van and South Gloucester Highways to investigate the concerns.
• Supermarket trollies being abandoned in the area, the group worked with local supermarkets and SGC departments to investigate ways to reduce the problem.
• Antisocial behaviour and damage to vehicles in Yate, investigated by Avon and Somerset Police

Launch event for South Gloucestershire Stronger IN Europe Alliance Thursday 31 March

The non-party campaign to keep Britain IN Europe will be launched at Little Stoke Community Hall, Little Stoke Lane, Bristol BS34 6HR on Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

Speakers from some of the alliance partners will introduce themselves, then there will be breakouts round tables facilitated by partners to discuss issues and make plans, followed by feedback.

Pro-Europeans of all parties or none are warmly welcomed. Refreshments will be provided.

Public meeting on Syrian Refugee Crisis

Yate Town Council in partnership with Reverend Ian Wallace, Team Rector of Yate are holding a public meeting in response to the Syrian Crisis at the Community Room in Tesco’s, Yate Shopping Centre at 6.30pm on Thursday 1st October 2015.

The Yate community are welcome to attend to view their ideas of how we can work to raise funds for the Red Cross to provide aid for the Syrian Refugees.

Frome Vale Area Forum next week

The Frome Vale Area Forum (which covers Yate, Dodington and Chipping Sodbury) takes place on Thursday 9th July at 7pm at Shireway Community Association, Yate.

As well as the usual open session where you can have your say on local issues, the agenda includes the allocation of community grants, presentations about food/waste recycling plus a presentation from BT about broadband.

The latest Frome Vale Area Forum meeting takes place on Thursday 15 May, 7pm, Frampton Cotterell Primary School, Frampton Cotterell . 

The Frome Vale Area Forum covers Yate, Chipping Sodbury, Frampton Cotterell, Laddenbrook and Westerleigh wards.

The meetings will include an open session where you can have your say on any issue affecting our area and you can also join in the discussions before any formal decisions are made. Councillors will be making decisions on the latest New Homes Bonus applications and receiving progress reports on local transport schemes.

Area Forums - your chance to get involved

At the coming round of Area Forums there will be updates on the Local Transport Capital Programme, Small Grant awards, the New Homes Bonus grants scheme and funding for youth activities. As always, there will be an open session where you can put any questions to councillors and officers.

Planning application submitted for 2450 houses at Brimsham Park

Letters have been dropping on doormats in Brimsham Park telling people that Heron Land Developments have applied for outline planning permission for up to 2,450 new dwellings, extra care housing, 5 hectares of employment land, a local centre and two primary schools.

Two steps to making your voice heard:

Step 1 -Tell the government inquiry into the South Glos Core Strategy about your views by signing our petition and adding your comments - just click this link: Stop Brimsham Park Housing by Monday 25 June, to give us time to convert the petition and your comments into a document that we can present to the enquiry.

Step 2 - Submit your comments on Heron's planning application to South Glos Council by Thursday 5 July. You can see the Heron planning application details and submit comments by going to South Glos's Planning Application Search Page and searching for planning application no. PK12/1913/O. That's a letter O on the end, not a zero.

You may find the YBuild 3000 campaign website useful to give you some ideas.

Our last chance to stop 3000 more houses for Yate!

At a public hearing on 29 June a government appointed inspector will hear the last evidence about the proposed development at Brimsham. If the inspector gives the green light that will mean 3000 more houses on the fields near Brimsham, and put yet more strain on our already stretched roads and community facilities.

Make no mistake, there would be no new main roads, nothing to deal with town centre congestion, and only 9 hectares of employment - not enough for the new residents. South Glos says vaguely that the shortfall will be made up by things like "encouraging home working".

Chris Willmore will be representing local people at the enquiry. She'll be presenting all the letters and the comments we've received throughout this campaign.

Take action against major housing planned for our area!

Are you concerned about the massive housing developments planned for our town? South Glos and developers are planning 3000 new houses for Brimsham Park, north of Yate, plus more at Peg Hill.

But it doesn't stop there. Elswick Park (the Sea Stores) is already being built. Then there's the Coopers factory site on Westerleigh Road and the housing planned to go along with Waitrose at Chipping Sodbury, and South Glos intends to sell off much of the Rodford School site for housing.

Just as worryingly, there are attempts by developers to put houses on sites that aren't even on South Glos's plans, such as Engine Common, with the possibility of more to come. Could Chipping Sodbury have some surprises in store?

Update 04/04/2011 - Barratt Homes, the developers for Peg Hill, have pointed out that it is within the boundary shown in South Glos's Core Strategy, so we've amended the wording above. In other news Heron Land Developments (the main developer for Brimsham Park) has objected to the Peg Hill development because it's not been coordinated with their big proposals.

Reminder - change of venue for Area Forum

In a break from recent practice, this Thursday's Frome Vale Area Forum will be held in the Main Hall at Frampton Cotterell Primary School (rather than the Ridgewood Centre, Yate). Doors open at 6.15pm for a 7pm start and the agenda includes a chance to give your views on the Government proposals to impose 33000 new homes on South Gloucestershire, decision making on grants and an open forum for your to have your say on whatever is concerning you.

Yate Community Plan Launch - 12 September

The Yate Community Plan - based on the views of residents, young people, businesses, community organisations and visitors - is a twenty-year vision for the future of Yate.

Key points include commitment to the young people of Yate, in particular a youth café and the long-overdue cinema; and more alternatives to the car for travelling in and around Yate.

The plan has been put together by local volunteers, and Yate Town Council's September meeting in September is expected to adopt the plan as policy.

There will be a celebratory launch event of the plan on Friday 12th September, 12noon – 2pm in the Heron Rooms, Poole Court. There will be celebratory music and food followed by a short opening presentation from Steve Webb MP. Frome Vale Area Forum meeting - 11th September

The Frome Vale Area Forum brings together residents and councillors from Chipping Sodbury, Cotswold Edge, Dodington, Frampton Cotterell, Ladden Brook, Westerleigh and Yate.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday 11 September at 7 pm on the main hall of Frampton Cottrell Primary School. Doors open at 6.15 pm - a good opportunity for some networking!

This meeting's agenda includes:
- An opportunity to ask your local South Gloucestershire councillors questions
- A discussion about the Government's proposal for 33,000 new homes in South Glos by 2026
- Decision making on capital grants to local community groups

Safer Stronger Community Group meetings

The next meetings of our local Safer Stronger Community Groups will be held as follows:

Yate area - Shire Way Community Centre – Tues 9th September 7pm

Chipping Sodbury area - Horton Village Hall – Weds 15th October 7.30pm

These meetings bring together representatives of the police, councils and other agencies. Sometimes it's hard to find out who is responsible for dealing with problems - these meetings are an opportunity for residents to raise issues, so that a coordinated approach can be taken.
