A New Year's thought

New Year used to be celebrated by banging dustbin lids. It's not the same now we have wheely bins.

The Clangers on Politics

Following the sad news of the death of Oliver Postgate, creator of the Clangers, Ivor the Engine, Noggin the Nog and Bagpuss, the BBC website has an excerpt from a Clangers episode unseen since election night in 1974.

They don't make cutting-edge humour like that any more...

(Update 19/12/08 - the original link has moved. Use the link above, or even better, go to the BBC Clangers trivia page and click on the Election link at the bottom - this page has more Clanger excerpts)

Jeremy Clarkson for PM? Number Ten's video reply

We don't normally include Government videos on this blog - but we couldn't resist this one:

Click on the arrow to start.

And yes, this is an official video from Downing Street, on their YouTube channel.

Gordon Brown's own videos get 5000 views in a month or two, if he's lucky.

This one got 25,000 views in the first 9 hours.

(Thanks to Gavin Whenman for pointing it out on his blog)

Nautical flytipping

Council workers called out to deal with a complaint of fly-tipping found a 12ft speedboat dumped at the roadside.

The boat was reported to the authority by residents living in Perrinpit Road, in Winterbourne.

A South Gloucestershire Council spokeswoman said: "This was a first for us. It has been removed and taken to a council amenity site."
