Blooming good results for local nature groups

All five local entries for the 2016 South West In Bloom awards have been given the top grade of 'Outstanding' in the Neighbourhoods category. This recognises the effort put in by our dedicated groups of volunteers and the support given by Dodington Parish Council and Yate Town Council.

The award winners are:

•     Dodington Allotment Association (Dodington)
•     Friends of Kingsgate Park (Yate)
•     Friends of Lilliput Park (Dodington)
•     Wapley Bushes Local Nature Reserve (Dodington)
•     Wapley Common and the Orchard for the Future (Dodington)

Representatives of the groups were presented with their awards at the South West In Bloom ceremony in Taunton.

Please pass this results list on to everyone you think may be interested, and remind them that the Yate and Dodington In Bloom certificates will be presented at our volunteers' evening, 7.30pm next Thursday 25 September at Poole Court. Everyone who has contributed to these splendid results will be welcome.

Jubilee Garden celebration Day this Saturday

Jubilee Garden is on the junction of Kennedy Way and Sundridge Park, Yate - the opposite corner to Lidl.

On Saturday 13 April from 10am to 2pm ther will be an event organised by Walking To Health:

• Help to plant a meadow
• Tea party and refreshments available
• Speak to one of a  travel planners for information and advice
• Hear all about Yate in Bloom
• Try the Smoothie Bike – make your own smoothie with pedal power!
• Find out about local gentle walking groups and outdoor activities for all abilities.

Also, have your say! Organisers would like to hear from residents about whether further developments of the park would be welcomed, including renovation of the underpass at Jubilee Garden.

Five awards for Yate and West Dodington in Bloom

Committee members received the cup and five certificates  from award
winning TV broadcaster, author and horticulturalist Toby Buckland

At their first attempt Yate and West Dodington in Bloom have scooped a total of five awards in this year's Royal Horticultural Society South West in Bloom. They not only won a Silver Award in the St Bridget Cup category, there were also Neighbourhood Awards in the morning for Abbotswood Primary School, Jacobs Well Community Garden and the Friends of Kingsgate Park.

There was a particularly exciting moment when it was announced that Abbotswood School was being given a discretionary composting award and had won the Viridor School Composting Award.

Yate and West Dodington in Bloom has brought together many community groups and individual volunteers - congratulations to all involved!

Chipping Sodbury in Bloom, entering for the second year, also continued their success by winning a Silver Gilt award in the Preece Cup.

Sodbury in Bloom wins regional awards!

Sodbury in Bloom has won two awards at the South West In Bloom Award Ceremony. Not only did they gain a Silver Award, they were also awarded the very prestigious "Best Newcomer Award" - in all they gathered two plaques and a Bristol Blue Glass statuette.

Although the group was only formed a few months before the judges arrived, they put in so much hard work and enthusiasm that the judges said that all the other groups should watch out for them in future. They certainly impressed the judges with their efforts and enthusiasm.
