On the bus? Get online!

Most First buses in our area now have free Wifi under a scheme paid for by the Department of Transport, topped up by First. You need to search for available WiFi networks and select the one called "first wifi".  This will then take you to the log in page. You have to register the first time you use it, but after that you will be able to log in automatically the next time you travel.

This will presumably be using a "mobile hotspot" type setup with a 2G/3G/4G device for the onward connection. I wonder which network First are using for this, as some have significantly better 3G/4G coverage/speeds than others!

  4. I don't know, but I've used the service within Bristol, before it was extended to our area, and it worked well.

I've since found out they use O2. Quite interesting they state on their website that it's not available in parts of Somerset due to lack of 3G coverage..... not something other networks seem to have a problem with.

  6. Thanks for checking out what network they're on. Wouldn't it be a good idea if they provided WiFi at Yate Bus Station too?
